Nearly three-fourths (71%) of installing security contractors only install 1-4 access control systems per month, and nearly nine in 10 (86%) install fewer than 10 each month. Large companies ($10 million or more in annual revenues) are putting in an average of 169 access systems on an annual basis compared to just 120 three years ago. Some other notable movers include: industrial (up 3 points), hospitals/schools/universities (1 point) and residential (4 points). The biggest drops were seen in retail (down 3 points) and financial institutions (4 points). Access Control FAST FACTS • Average gross proft margin for access control installations is 27%. • Average price charged per door/entryway for an access control system is $1,278. • Installing companies collect 15% of their overall revenues annually from access control jobs, down 2 percentage points from 2011. • On average, dealers/ integrators say 36% of their access control installations include some sort of integration with video surveillance, Average Number of Doors/ Entryways Per Installation 7 Considering the average price per door/entryway in an access control installation is $1,278, security contractors are charging an average of $8,946, which is a $231 increase from 2011 when respondents reported charging $1,245 and also averaged seven openings per installation.
