HID Wraps Up 2 NFC Enterprise Pilot Programs HID Global unveiled two pilot programs that it says validate how mobile access control using Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled smartphones can allow employees to easily open doors with a mobile device and not compromise physical enterprise security. Highlighted during an ASIS 2012 strategy briefi ng, the pilots were conducted at the headquarters of Netfl ix in Los Gatos, Calif., and Good Technology, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based provider of secure mobility solutions. At each facility, multiCLASS SE readers replaced proximity readers at selected doors for handsets equipped with NFC capabilities and digital keys. "T ey are serious, and they go to the heart of the success and safety of our communities and our economies. " Napolitano says federal computer systems receive thousands of threats every year and hackers are targeting water companies, natural gas pipelines, and the nuclear and chemi- cal industries. She told the audience that one challenge she faces is that most computer networks are private, and she asked for cooperation to make them secure. "My friends, we are all in this together. We all need a safe and secure cyberspace, said. "We have to work together to get to where we need to be, in as quick a time as possible." At Good Technology, more than 80% of respondents said the smartphone was more convenient to use than their current access card, primarily because they never forget their phones like they do their badges.
