Tose deliverables included: system design and engineering; production of installation plans and details utilizing AutoCAD software; product submittals and shop drawings; prefabrication, programming and testing of major system components; project management, administration and tracking; installation services; IT systems programming, testing and commissioning; system training; system asbuilt drawings and manuals; parts and labor warranty. "Diebold's proposal was well planned and documented, demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of security implementation needs for a property of our size and complexity," says Garces. "Te solutions Diebold proposed went above and beyond our basic security needs to ofer enhanced protection for our property." INTEGRATOR NOT FAZED BY PHASES Diebold's involvement in the $1.6 million project would span 18 months, from August 2011 to January 2013. Troughout that time, the integrator was intimately involved in frequent design, planning, coordination and development activities. Onsite installation and integration work was limited to defned periods so as to work around the fuid construction process. "We coordinated with various vendors throughout the project, including reviewing fre code requirements for the alarm systems and elevators," says Miguel Casanova, senior project manager, Diebold Electronic Security. "We worked very closely with the property owner to review operational needs as the functional feel for the facility evolved. Working as a true security partner, we were able to help the project evolve." In the project's frst phase, Diebold focused on the property's south condominium tower. Each system is integrated to enable streamlined security responses, using the following highlighted equipment and software: Security command center — Workstations, computers, monitors, video wall, RGB video processor Security server room — Servers, UPS and IP NVRs Security closets — Equipment rack with 48-port patch panel, cable tray, switches, UPS and intercom central exchange Alarm monitoring system — Hardware control panels and several hundred security feld devices (e.g. alarms, duress buttons, door position switches) Video surveillance — Hundreds of interior and exterior 34 / SECURITYSALES.COM / JULY 2013 (left) Members of the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort and Diebold teams engage in a consultation in the site's security server room. Video is integrated with access control and other systems. cameras (f xed and p/t/z) Digital recording system — Numerous DVRs Video management software — VMS to manage storage/retrieval Guard tour — Hardware and software for 120+ guard tour stations Elevator destination dispatch system — Integrated with hotel's property management software and access control system, including card readers for elevator cabs and call-up areas Access control system — Upwards of 100 interior/exterior card readers Intercom system — Integrated with access control system Phase two of the project covered the resort's north condominium tower, and phase three focused on the hotel tower. Each phase involved similar implementations and integrations to those completed for the south condo tower, with the exception of the security command center and security server room. Some of the specifc brands selected were Aiphone, Altronix, American Dynamics, HID Global, Lenel and Software House. "Te general specifcations for the project aforded Diebold the opportunity to make our own technology choices," says Jim Lash, director, IT implementation, Diebold Electronic Security. "As we learned more about how the facility was going to operate, we considered a variety of technologies and applications to support the property's needs. In our fnal selection, we chose systems and software protocols that we had experience integrating and knew would work well together." ACHIEVING INTEGRATED EFFICIENCIES The heart of the resort's security operations is the security command center, where operators sit at an advanced workstation console to monitor cameras, access control systems, door alarms, intercom stations, duress buttons and other systems. Several fat-screen monitors mounted on the wall in front of the console enable tiling of video images. Operators can also drag images from desktop monitors to the video wall for a highly visible view of alarm conditions. "We have never seen a system like this, and the way the security technology interfaces with other enterprise systems is incredible," says Garces. "When we have a duress alarm, the cameras in the vicinity pop up on the main screen. Te patrol feature on the pan/tilt/zoom cameras around the resort gives us great area coverage on our decks and perimeter."
