HOW TO Create a Unified Security Platform I ADVERTORIAL t is very hard to have people viewing multiple cameras, 24 hours per day, from locations that span cities, countries and even continents. Simultaneous monitoring of any or all sites from a single video management software (VMS) session is paramount. Leveraging this type of functionality, sites can still operate autonomously, allowing centralized, collaborative or mixed operation. Tey can easily view and share live or recorded video and alarms across sites, and investigate events from any site. And, with built-in resiliency applications, operations can still be online and functional despite any failures at individual sites. In cases where users have more advanced applications, larger areas to monitor, we see adoption of video analytics, for security intelligence (people loitering, motion detection, object left behind) or new video content analysis (VCA) applications that include license plate and face recognition features. Sometimes a robust video management software solution is not enough to simplify security operations. If the organization relies on multiple safety and security systems, this is where the concept of physical security information management (PSIM) comes into play. PSIM is an open platform philosophy that integrates all security systems onto one unifed platform. PSIM systems create a single consolidated system with a single user interface that enables organizations to plan their security environment, monitor it, respond efectively to events, and review event response for auditing/ regulatory compliance and to improve on response processes. PSIM also produces a 3D GIS presentation of this information in the monitored area so operators have a realworld view of what's happening. Tis provides security personnel and frst responders with real-time information for more efcient, efective and safe resolution to situations. Responders have a view into relevant assets, such as maps, foor plans and video prior to arriving on the scene as well as updates as the situation evolves. No matter what type of organization, there are some common challenges within all operations that must be addressed to monitor and secure facilities. In order to minimize investment costs and maximize www.securitysales.com/freeinfo/22250 46 / SECURITYSALES.COM / THE GOLD BOOK 2013 total cost of ownership, organizations should think about their business issues and determine whether deploying a PSIM solution is best or to upgrade their VMS — as it can be a lot less costly and complex.
