HOW TO Select Fire Protection for Large Structures and Open Spaces D ue to the inherent nature of their design, many of today's modern, large structures are not adequately protected against smoke and fre. Features like large atriums, vast open areas and high ceilings, can make the use of traditional smoke and fre detection methods ADVERTORIAL impractical, inefective and difcult to maintain/operate. High airfow and smoke stratifcation can prevent smoke from reaching spot-type smoke detectors, adding to the inefectiveness of traditional fre detection in open area facilities. Te Solution: Video Image Detection Video image detection cameras can see and recognize smoke and fames overlooking large spaces at great distances, while providing video surveillance capabilities as a bonus. Fike's SigniFire video fame, smoke and intrusion detection system, visually detects the presence of fre or smoke at its source, independent of airfow in the area, representing a critical advantage for early warning fre detection. SigniFire detects fre within seconds and supplies vital information, such as live video to remotely located guards, triggering fre alarms, and providing pre-recorded video forensic evidence for future fre investigations. Each SigniFire IP camera can also be confgured with multiple detection and/or exclusion zones. Tese zones are set to either detect specifc events (fre, smoke and motion) within the zone, or detect events outside the zone. Te activation of each zone can also be linked to time schedules – so the system is always working when you need it but won't interfere with special events or circumstances. SigniFire, which recently earned the CE Mark in addition to being UL Listed and FM Approved, is ideally suited for large volume structures where traditional fre detection methods are impractical and/or inefective: • Warehouse/Distribution Centers large open areas and high ceilings • Education - large corridors, open entry ways, arenas, gymnasiums, auditoriums, labs and libraries • Energy - coal, hydro, and nuclear power plants where most fres originate at the lube oil system on large rotating turbines and generators www.securitysales.com/freeinfo/22268 36 / SECURITYSALES.COM / THE GOLD BOOK 2013 • Aircraft Hangars - provides early detection and the opportunity for early suppression or nuisance rejection before an expensive AFFF dump • Marine - generator rooms, propulsion rooms, turbine rooms, pump rooms and other general machinery spaces • Transportation - motion zones can be placed around door and artifacts to provide an added layer of security. SigniFire's advanced early warning detection capabilities can dramatically reduce the loss in these and many other applications.
