SSI's Security Scanner Web poll question — How do incidents such as July's shooting massacre at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater aff ect your stance on gun control? — elicited several follow-up comments. Select ones are shown below (see Web Watch page for compete results of that survey). The Role of Guns in the World of Security I don't favor citizens owning assault rifl es and other exotic weapons, but that is not what the Constitution says. Going back to the mindset of the writers, having been subject to an unjust government and trying to be sure that a future government doesn't forcefully subjugate the people. The Con- stitution allows citizens to bear arms, which at the time were equivalent to the arms used by the military. A strict interpretation of the Constitu- tion today would yield the same result. A citizen is permitted to match the arms used by the current military. Should the Constitution be changed? I would say yes, but others would disagree and look at the Founding Fathers' belief that citizens would be able to confront the military should a military takeover happen. Remote, yes, but that is what was written. SCS Online post Incidents like this are what get media attention for the shock value, but nobody talked about the shooting in Denver just before that was stopped because someone had a concealed fi rearm. If more people car- ried fi rearms, psychos like that would think twice before trying to slaughter an entire theatre full of people! Dave Online post Firearms are a Constitutional right. The theater did not allow legal fi rearms inside. How did that work out for them?
