s beTHEt of 2013 INTEGRATED INSTALLATION OF THE YEAR RUNNER-UP: VECTOR SECURITY BEST Immigration & Customs Migrates to Megapixel G iven the dangerous and unpredictable world we live in today, more than ever high security is paramount when it comes to federal government facilities. Fortunately, today's advanced electronic security solutions are lending our nation superior tools with which to maintain order, safety and combat dastardly deeds. However, those systems would not be efective without expert and conscientious design-build providers such as Vector Security. Te Warrendale, Pa.-headquartered company was contracted to install an integrated security system at a new 27,000-squarefoot U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Tallahassee, Fla. Te project — which included 100 zones of intrusion detection, access control with Code Bench PIV enrollment, megapixel video surveillance, duress alarms for 10 areas, video intercoms, and numerous LCD monitors, workstations and servers — was named a f nalist for SSI's 2013 Integrated Installation of the Year. GOVERNING PRINCIPLES Having done a Border Patrol project and work for the U.S. Navy, Vector Security was well versed for delivering ICE the standard of service it demands. "We had worked with the general contractor and owner on a Border Patrol facility in Dania Beach, Fla., two years prior," says Joseph Robbins, senior sales consultant, Vector Security. "When this project became viable, they brought us in to consult. We submitted several quotations as the scope of work was changed. We obtained the contract after the building was completed and 18 months after the start of negotiations." Te Tallahassee location is a combination detention and investigative facility. Areas requiring surveillance and protection included evidence rooms, records, detention cells and adjacent rooms. Te multiuse facility's package included megapixel cameras, NVRs, large-screen monitors, remote monitoring stations, iClass card readers, intrusion detection with motion detectors and keypads, and intercoms. BUTTON ACTIVATES CAMERAS More detailed aspects of the ICE solution follow: All exterior doors required high security balanced magnetic sensors. Impact-resistant glass was installed on all windows, so dual technology motion detectors were used throughout for interior area protection. Tere are approximately 15 security partitions due to the unique requirements of this multidepartmental facility. 42 / SECURITYSALES.COM / JULY 2013 Vector Security's integrated installation at a new U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility included 100 zones of intrusion detection, access control and video surveillance. Detainee-area cameras are housed in detention-grade enclosures with ½-inchthick glass. Large-screen LCD monitors located throughout the facility display the cameras on a rotational basis. No more than eight cameras are displayed at any one time. Robbins explains how 17 emergency buttons were incorporated into the solution. "When one is pressed, the camera associated with that button is displayed on all monitors in full screen," he says. "At the same time, color-coded strobe lights signal what area the emergency is in so help can then be dispatched." Tere are also fve workstation computers with Xeonbased CPUs that can access all functions of the system. Other specifcs include: 43 megapixel cameras; 45 access readers with keypads to control doors and gates; eight video intercom substations; 20 security keypads; 40 motion detectors; four delayed egress stations; 22 request-to-exit PIR motion detectors; 40 strobe lights; and numerous relays and devices. Te access system has eight hours of battery backup in addition to the emergency generator. HIGH PROFILE BRANDS USED Equipment brands and devices deployed included: Altronix power supplies; Avigilon cameras and NVRs; HID iClass smartcard readers; Software House access control panels and software; Honeywell security panels, keypads, sensors and motion detectors; Potter strobe lights; Sceptre 40-inch monitors; Ditek surge protection; Aiphone intercom; Bosch motion detectors; Linear detention-grade camera housings; HES electric door strikes; Securitron mag locks; Alarm Controls delayed egress stations; Tripp-lite video distribution; and Peerless mounting hardware for monitors.
